On the occasion of its first anniversary, the massacre of civilians in Ampatuan, Maguindanao, is the focus of the Phil. Daily Inquirer's Front Page today,
The headline news (Maguindanaoans still living in fear. ‘You don’t see them, but they are still around’) seems to be a crucifixion of the massacre suspects who, we are reminded, are allies of the previous President. The same report forgot to mention though that former President Arroyo is also an ally of the victim's family, the Mangudadatus. Arroyo -1.
The other news today:
Darkness falls on Ampatuan mansions - a report that seems again to crucify the family of the suspects of the massacre of innocent civilians among them journalists, that happened exactly one year ago.
Merciless murder of 57 marked Tuesday - a report on the commemoration of the gruesome massacre last year in Maguindanao, by the Inquirer's own radio station, amidst the President's proclamation of a day of remembrance. Inquirer +1. Aquino +1.
PDI man packs a gun, wears bullet-proof vest - more stories on the Ampatuan massacre, from a journalist feeling the heat from his profession.
Ban on contraceptives stands, say Vatican officials - an AP take on the Pope's recent statement on condom, that make the Church looks like giving-in to pressure. Catholic Church -1.
TELLING THE FILIPINO STORY TO THE WORLD. Present at creation: Hysterical, historical - a continuation of a piece by the Inquirer's founder, on the paper's own history. Inquirer +1.
Teen idol Justin Bieber beats his elder idols - an AP report on the American Music Awards.
Special underwear covers private parts - a report on a nagging issue in the USA about airports and airplane security.
The scores:
Inquirer: 2
Aquino: 1
Catholic Church: -1
Arroyo: -1
