The Vizconde coverage by the Phil. Daily Inquirer Front Page continues today, without clarity as to why the said report is given central treatment.

The headline (Vizconde cop to be freed. Convict jailed 9 years for burning evidence) seems to give further tension on the upcoming SC decision on a Vizconde Massacre issue, that surprisingly gave the supposed accomplice space to assert his innocence.

The other Front Page News today:

SC, Webbs dare Vizconde to name names - is a defense on the SC battered yesterday by the senior Vizconde's allegation. Although the report still reminded everyone of a supposed pressure from a justice in the SC to the rest of the justices, it gave more space on the defense enough to credit a positive treatment for the Supreme Court. SC +1.

NINOY’S 78TH BIRTHDAY. ‘I’m sure, somewhere out there, he’s helping out Noy,’ says Ballsy - a report which last sentence, praising the President, simply explains what it is all about. Aquino +1.

Pregnant woman stabbed 24 times, shot once, lives - a report about a crime on the hands of policemen, that should have been given more prominence and which focus should have been on the background of the crime itself rather than on the inner strength of the victim. Although the purported perpetrators were caught and apprehended, the report results of course into another negative news against the Police force. The report is accompanied by a photo of the victim which clearly shows the particulars on where she is being medically attended to, surprisingly without regard for her safety, when in fact the case involves the possibility that the victim was hit because she is a witness to a crime. On the occasion of its first anniversary, the massacre of civilians in Ampatuan, Maguindanao, is the focus of the Phil. Daily Inquirer's Front Page today,

The headline news (Maguindanaoans still living in fear. ‘You don’t see them, but they are still around’) seems to be a crucifixion of the massacre suspects who, we are reminded, are allies of the previous President. The same report forgot to mention though that former President Arroyo is also an ally of the victim's family, the Mangudadatus. Arroyo -1.

President Aquino is again in the Phil. Daily Inquirer Front Page today via a totally one sided press release from his administration.

The headline (Aquino to protect big infra investors) is an uncontested promotion of the administration's infrastructure plan that would involve local and foreign investors. Out of nowhere, the President's opinion which actually should not matter in this case, is the title of the headline in the Phil. Daily Inquirer Front Page today.

The headline report (Aquino: Massacre trial should be aired live. DoJ bats for transparency, people’s right to know) gave President Aquino space for his opinion that counters a SC decision on media coverage of court hearings on the Ampatuan Massacre. Sec. De Lima also enjoyed uncontested space for her opinion although the same is milder than the President's. The report does not have any material on the SC side. Aquino +1. De Lima +1. SC -1.

The other Front Page news today:

Former President Arroyo while doing nothing to warrant any coverage is again on the headlines today.

The headline (Arroyo ‘aided’ Ampatuans—HRW. NY rights body says clan linked to 50 other abuses) is a report on a 96-page report by an International Human Rights group on the Ampatuans alleged impunity, linking former President to such, although it seems the report itself is critical not only of the former President but of all past and present administrations. The news report did not also explain how we can be looking at a report by a foreign group when our own mass media should have known the realities on the ground better. Arroyo -1.

The other news today:

A supposedly negative take on the President via his lowered popularity ratings is the centerpiece in the Phil. Daily Inquirer Front Page today.

The headline (Aquino’s ratings dip but still high. President hits media for stress on negative) seems to be a carefully managed spin on the approval and trust rating of the President which is not necessarily low if they were to be believed. The report seems trying to impart that the President is a perfectionist of sorts. Aquino +1.

The other news in the Front Page today:

Japan offers to invest $5B in PH - a whole lot of good news, all not verified by the paper, from the President. Aquino +1.

Aquino: Lay off my love life and focus on issues - while the President keeps talking about his lovelife, the report focused on that he doesn't want people to talk about it. In a land where it was said more than 25% of people lives on $2 or less a day, the biggest news of the leading newspaper is all about boxing rather than the economic benefits the President's trip to Japan and joining the APEC could bring. In fact, today, the Phil. Daily Inquirer Front Page did not have any news on the APEC meeting, which organization's aim, to open its members trade with each other, has tremendous impact on the lives of every Filipino.

The headline (Step to immortality. Filipino champ 5-1 favorite to beat Margarito) is all about Pacquiao's boxing match today, also giving space to the President's interest in the match, forgetting altogether the embarrassing situation where a member of our congress is out there doing something that has absolutely nothing to do with being a lawmaker. Pacquiao +1. Aquino +1.

The other news today:

India worries PH will be world’s No. 1 BPO center in five years - a 2nd report in two days on the same industry.

PH up a notch in S & P credit rating: From ‘BB-’ to ‘BB’ - a report that shows a continuing confidence in the Philippines economy, that, although would insinuate a confidence in the present administration, did not actually point that out.
