June 30, 2010

Today is the first day of the new President's term.

And as it should, the first item of the day is the list of the new President's appointees for cabinet positions (Aquino names Cabinet. Old, new faces in official family). This report gave some analysis of the selection and gave space to President Aquino's responses to interview questions. Although there is a question on the DENR appointee coming from a supposed environmentalist group, the news still generally gave the new president a positive treatment. Aquino +1.

The other news today:

Thumb-nail sketches of new Cabinet execs - is as the title suggests the list of those named in the Cabinet and a short feature on each.

Yellow rain, fog horns, VIPs at Aquino inaugural - a brief note on additional preparations for today's inauguration of the President, and other similar news.

Arroyo steps down after 9 years in Palace - a positive coverage of President Arroyo on her last day in Malacanang. Arroyo +1.

Davide picked to head truth commission - Is a news report on a new Presidential commission, supposedly independent, that will run after the sins of government of the past nine and a half years. Arroyo -1. Aquino +1.

Independent probe of May polls sought - a continuation of yesterday's news regarding the flawed automated elections. The blame is placed squarely on SMARTMATIC's shoulder. SMARTMATIC -1.

Binay may hold court at Coconut Palace - a news space exclusively for the new VP. Binay +1.

The scores today:
Aquino: 2
Binay: 1
Arroyo: 1-1=0
SMARTMATIC: -1
