The main headline (‘Pedring’ shuts down Metro Manila. Typhoon revives memories of ‘Ondoy’) reports on the damage brought about by the typhoon, the report even trying to compare the same with the more devastating 2009 floods.

The other front page news reports today:

16 killed on surges, mudslides and floods - It seems that this news report has a different title online as this other news report is found instead: ‘Pedring’ leaves 16 dead across Luzon. This report is basically a continuation of the headline.

Stormy labor row halts 172 PAL flights - a story on an airline's labor poblem which affected thousands of passengers.

‘Tsunami’ waves force US Embassy evacuation - a report that even the US embassy is not exempt from the onslaught of the typhoon, which report failed to identify the cause of the floods.

Philippines gets Japan support on Spratlys dispute - ours seems to be a trailblazing President if this report, which did not even made an attempt to make any verification of the good news, is to be believed. Aquino +1.

The headline (Gov’t braces for gold rush. DENR fears surge in illegal mining) is a curious report on the valuable metal, with the DENR given space to say they are doing something to protect the environment. DENR +1.

New Yorkers mourn and move on - an essay on one's own recollection of and reflection on 9/11.

Filipinos seek info on Web; rich prefer newspapers - a report on supposed statistics on how Filipinos get their information.

PDI starts write-along for campus journalists - a report on the paper itself that seems to claim that they maintain some sort journalistic standards which could have been believable if we have not actually monitored their reporting. Inquirer +1.

No more big fish; overfishing blamed - a curious report on declining population of fish made for canned sardines.

Americans unite as they recall 9/11 horror - a report on the ceremonies to commemorate the terrorist attack in the US.

Generation of journalists owes him - an essay in remembrance of a journalist/speechwriter/professor, who worked with a Catholic Media organization for a while. Catholic Church +1.

Analysis. Cables show how US intervened in the Philippines - a repeat of wikileak "leaks" where it mostly tag the former President as bad, and sometimes described in pure spin by the paper. Arroyo -1.

US staged attacks, Mahathir insists - a story that perhaps made the former Malaysian Premier to seem losing it.

Torres also tried to grab Tierra Pura, says legislator - it seems everyone knows that this land grabber is a criminal but nobody asked why no one is arresting him.

Senator Arroyo: Beware of US Embassy invitations - again the paper giving undue importance to supposed leaked information.

Alvarez exits with a bang, sues oil firm for P4B - the customs chief is actually doing his job via this wide news space reserved for him exclusively. Customs +1.

The headline (WikiLeaks: US backed MILF. Washington favored MOA-AD, cables show) is again a report on stolen and unconfirmed information that seems to show that the US government is meddling on Philippine internal affairs to get their hands on some natural resources in Mindanao. US -1. NPA +1.

NDF drops ‘coalition gov’t’ from agenda - the government and the NPA seems to be reaasonable people ready to achieve peace in this report. Aquino +1. NPA +1.

Bad news for US immigrants’ adult kids - probably a news report directed towards Filipinos who wanted to go to the US for whatever reasons.

Enrile draws over-the-top parallels for RH bill - seems like a report on the gods of pantheon talking to each other.

Senate, House to probe QC land dispute - an update on a bizarre land dispute in Quezon City.

Homeowners want SC to punish judge - more updates on the same bizarre land dispute.

Supposedly stolen and unverified information that puts the former President in a bad light again took the Front Page of the Phil. Daily Inquirer today.



The headline (US rebuffed Gloria Arroyo on martial law plan. WikiLeaks: Gonzales, other execs behind plot) show the blatant double standard the paper has in treating wiki leaks, giving extensive coverage for something that could paint the former President as both panicky and as having dictatorial tendencies. Arroyo -1.

US cable says general gained from Abu kidnap - a report that puts the former Presidentiable Gibo Teodoro in an embarrassing situation, with everyone believing wikileaks. Teodoro -1.

Cops, sheriff back QC land takeover raids - a report on an amazing land dispute that could make our land registration process a laughing stock in the real estate world.

‘Crocodile Dundees’ after bigger croc than ‘Lolong’ - a story on a crocodile caught recently which could be a world record holder in size.

Vice President Binay: Torres notorious landgrabber - the Vice President figuring in on the land dispute, identifying one of the actors as a landgrabber, but was not asked to clarify why he has not done anything about it. Binay +1.

President Aquino pining for love sparks new Cola Wars - The president and his take on his lovelife, gave a chance to advertise two brands of softdrinks. Aquino +1.
