September 12, 2010

For the first time since the hostage taking incident in Manila, the Phil. Daily Inquirer front page today does not have a report on it, except only in passing.

The main headline ('Jueteng' payoff bared. Retired bishop says Aquino aides get P2M monthly) is a report on the first salvo of tirades coming from Anti-Jueteng crusader Bishop Cruz against the proliferation of the numbers game in the Aquino administration. The bishop did not present any proof but seems to support Sec. Robredo over whoever will replace him in case he is removed from the DILG. This news is also revealing in a way that the paper received a text message from the President in response to the news, showing how close the paper is to the President. Aquino -1. Robredo +1.

The other front page news today:

Koran row shrouds 9/11 anniversary in controversy - a report on the US remembrance of 9/11 with several controversies being brewed all around it.

Buses can be as effective as trains, says prof - reports about a public transportation scheme that may be implemented in the country.

‘Palengskwela’: Kids learn in marketplace of ideas - a feature report on a project to educate some children working in the marketplace, similar to what CNN hero Penaflorida is doing.

EDSA Shrine groups start prayer-vigil for Aquino - a report that blurs the intention of prayers started at the EDSA shrine.

River warriors, eco-precinct cops to keep Pasig clean - a report on some new developments on saving rivers.

The score:
Robredo: 1
Aquino: -1
