Again, the main headline today for the Inquirer is about the supposed "midnight deal" between the PCGG and the Marcoses (No deal, Marcoses claim. Greggy Araneta denies ongoing talks with PCG). Since it seems even from yesterday's news that there is no such deal, today's main news mainly says there is no such deal.

Nevertheless, the news report still features Chavez' (former Solicitor General, I think) rantings on the deal that does not exist. Out of nowhere, Sen. Aquino also was given space for opposing the non-existent deal. In asking Aquino for his comments on almost every issue or non-issue, and not the others, I can see that the Inquirer thinks highly of him. To Inquirer princess, Aquino must have been the knight in shining armor:
Aquino to rescind deal

In Urdaneta, Pangasinan, where he was on a campaign trip, Liberal Party candidate Sen. Benigno Aquino III said that he would rescind the reported P140-billion compromise agreement with the Marcos family and any other midnight deals hatched during Ms Arroyo’s last few months in office, if elected.

But Aquino said he would abide by all legal requirements.

“One of the things I first learned when I was a congressman is that even if the deal is extremely injurious to public interest it cannot be revoked just like that. We will have to go through the legal process to be able to make sure what we are doing is in accordance with our jurisprudence. It is frustrating but that is the doctrine,” he said.

Very thorough review

He would get legal advice before proceeding with any action, but all midnight deals will be reviewed, he said.

“If it is injurious to the common good and public interest, I am compelled to rescind such a deal. However there is a process. It is not a unilateral act,” said Aquino.

He said he would also seek an immediate review of the PCGG, one of the first agencies created by his mother, President Corazon Aquino, in 1986.

He said the agency’s litigation functions should be transferred to the justice department and its administrative functions to the Presidential Management Staff.

“That way it’s immediately under the Office of the President. I’m not thinking of this President, but the next President,” he said.

“The PCGG was conceived in grace, born and nurtured in sin, and it will die in sin. It’s no better than a vehicle on its way to the junkyard,” he said.

Needless to say, this news report favors the LP bet.

Meanwhile, a news with Gordon in its title (Don’t wish Dick Gordon good luck but God bless or ‘good skill’) is not about Gordon but about the various political sorties covered by the Inquirer. The news pretty much covers everyone except a few and does not favor anyone. We can say though that Gordon benefited for having his name on the front page, but not quite.

The only news on the front page about labor day (Unveiling of Ka Bel’s relief marks opposition’s Labor Day) since yesterday is not about any issue about labor and economy but about the usual rants labor groups have on labor days. I don't see the news benefiting any of the Presidential candidates as there are no reference about them at all.

There is news today (Assassination of Ninoy Aquino: Whodunnit worth revisiting) about the History Channel's upcoming feature on the Aquino assassination. Although it did not mention anything about the third Benigno Aquino, of course we know that the sheer reminder about our assassinated hero and the timing benefits only Noynoy.

Meanwhile, the feature about Teodoro goes positively for Teodoro (Gilbert C. Teodoro: RP deserves to be among world’s vibrant economies) , there is no question about it. But is it enough to swing the front page to his favor or does it still goes for Aquino, with two pieces of news benefiting the latter?

I say, judging from the news contents, including the photos featured, the Inquirer Front Page today did a favor to Teodoro. The score now goes as follows:
Aquino: 12
Estrada: 1
Villanueva: 1
Teodoro: 1
All the rest: 0
