A rebuke to Sen. Noynoy Aquino, from no other than the top cardinal(arguably) in the Catholic hierarchy in the Philippines, is the main banner today.

And it should be. And for the first time in our monitor, we see the Inquirer actually had a totally negative news about Aquino. The report (Cardinal hits call for people power. Rosales reacts to Aquino’s warning of poll fraud) did not say when the interview with Manila Cardinal Gaudencio Rosales was made though. Meanwhile, the headline itself seems to be tamer in nature than most of the previous headlines. A more creative treatment would have been: Cardinal Rosales on People Power: "No for Heaven's sake". Aquino call rebuked by prelate. Or perhaps a more controversial treatment: Cardinal Rosales on Aquino: "Crazy, crazy, crazy".

The news about Mayweather (Take blood test, we’ll fight, Floyd tells Pacman) did not so much talk about Pacquiao's congress run. I see the news as devoid of any politics.

The news on Pastor Quiboloy's endorsement of Gibo Teodoro(Pastor Quiboloy anoints Teodoro) is of course positive for Teodoro. In the piece though, out of nowhere, Aquino spokesperson Lacierda had his space, for whatever reason:
Lawyer Edwin Lacierda, spokesperson of Aquino, said Quiboloy’s choice was a “disappointment” but he added there were other big groups set to endorse Aquino.

So while this news is positively going for Teodoro, it somehow got a little positive for Aquino as well.

One piece on the front page, an analysis by Amando Doronila is surprisingly totally one-sided against Villar (Villar his own worst enemy). Amazingly, majority of the analysis is based on the non-issue on Villar's supposed PSE manipulation. Doronila totally believed and gave the survey credence, showing Villar down, although he did say that the survey was done at the height of the non-issue. Obviously, the piece is biased against Villar, although it did not endorse any of the candidates.

There is a news about Villar and Delos Reyes having signed a "covenant" to protect life with the Catholic Church (Church enlists Villar, de los Reyes in drive vs RH bill), which is of course positive about both candidates. Again, as if by habit, the Aquino side had considerable space in the same news:
However, Edwin Lacierda, spokesperson for Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, the leading presidential candidate in the surveys, said that the Liberal Party standard-bearer did not get an invitation to the signing.

Aquino has been criticized by Catholic groups for his stand on the RH bill, but Lacierda said that Aquino did not support the measure in its present form.

He explained that Aquino maintained that the country’s high population growth “must be addressed.”

“The state should inform and educate the public, especially the poor, of their choices of family planning, both natural and modern,” Lacierda said.

“We should leave it to the parents to choose the size of their family and the method. So, our end-position respects the conscience of each individual,” he added.

Lacierda said Aquino would not restrict the public’s choice only to natural family planning, the only method approved by the Church.

“If you are Catholic and you choose only natural family planning methods, then that’s OK. But the government should not restrict the choices of the public,” he said.

It is very clear what is happening here. If there is news on whatever issue, the Inquirer would ask the Aquino camp about it and hardly any other, surely making him the most important person on earth. This alone proves the slant the paper is taking. Well, at least they did not ask Aquino about the significance of the Mayweather win versus Mosley, but I do not discount that happening.

The news about Estrada winning via "pig vile" (Tribe sees Estrada win in pig bile) started as positive for the former President, but is negative in the end. So I count it neutral for the candidate.

There is news about Arroyo's appointment to the MWSS (Ex-Arroyo adviser heads MWSS) which of course turned out negative for the administration. There is no reference to the candidates though rendering it neutral politically.

Lastly, there is a feature today on Sen. Jamby Madrigal (MARIA ANA CONSUELO MADRIGAL: In serving people, work becomes joy) which is totally positive for her and a bit negative for Villar. The feature seems not to have found anything negative about the subject and looked like it came straight from a brochure.

So, for today's Inquirer Front Page, here is my verdict: The front page today is somewhat negative to Aquino, somewhat negative to Villar, neutral to Estrada, positive to Madrigal, a bit positive to Teodoro and a bit positive to Delos Reyes. So, in sum, who would the front page favor today? I say Madrigal.

Our score goes:
Aquino: 12
Estrada: 1
Villanueva: 1
Teodoro: 1
Madrigal: 1
