May 8, 2010

The main headline today is of course about the elections on Monday.

The news contained in the main headline today (SC: It’s all systems go. Court junks petitions to postpone polls) covered mostly the petition of Estrada to the Supreme Court asking to postpone the elections. I think this news is a bit positive to Estrada with the mere coverage, although his petition is junked. I also think that the news gave positive coverage to Villanueva and to Gordon even in a limited manner. Another news on the same topic (Comelec: We’re 98-percent ready) is mainly an interview with Christian Monsod. Although I do not recall the former COMELEC chairman as having declared his support for any candidate, I think he is associated with people who are mostly Noynoy supporters. The least that with know is that his wife Solita Monsod is vocal in her crusade against Villar. Whatever the plan of Mr. Monsod as to have sided with COMELEC, is beyond my knowledge and I cannot call this news to have favored anyone.

Still another news about the PCOS deliveries (Guard PCOS like your spouses, teachers told) seems to be neutral to the candidates.

The news coverage on the final push of four presidential candidates (The final push turns Metro into seas of green, yellow, orange) turned out neutral to positive for the covered candidates except for Villar whose crowd was mentioned to not have filled the venue:
The NP’s miting de avance was held at the Manila Harbor Center, Radial Road 10, in Vitas. It could reportedly hold up to 180,000 people, but as of early evening, not even half of the place had been filled up.

There were no mention on the number of people who attended the miting de avance of Aquino and Estrada. The attendees at the Teodoro rally is estimated to be about 100,000 (the estimates came from a Teodoro spokesperson).

The news about the runners up to Aquino (Villar, Estrada, Bro. Eddie: Never say die) could not be very positive for those covered. Although Sen. Aquino is not mentioned in the news, his lead in the surveys is the obvious reason he was not included, which makes it positive for him. The title of the news itself means all the others mentioned are losing the elections.

Meanwhile, I do not see anyone benefiting from the news regarding justice in Mindanao (Weak justice system fuels Mindanao war). A coverage on Gordon (Not quite Pacquiao, Gordon settles for Manny Paksiw), turned out positive for the Senator and his running mate Fernando.

Finally, the featured candidate today is JC Delos Reyes (JOHN CARLOS G. DE LOS REYES:
What we cannot do, God will do for us, there’s spiritual inspiration in us
), who is treated fairly in the article, and which I call as positively beneficial to him. But is it positive enough, enough to give the whole issue to Delos Reyes. Yes, I think so.

So my score goes something like this now:
Aquino: 13
Erap: 2
Villanueva: 1
Madrigal: 1
Teodoro: 1
Villar: 1
Perlas: 1
Delos Reyes: 1
Gordon: 0
