October 13, 2010

Although the IIRC report is still very much in the news, the Presidential Amnesty on Coup plotters took the centerstage in Philippine Daily Inquirer Front Page today.

The main headline (Aquino grants amnesty to Trillanes, mutineers. 300 rebel soldiers in 3 revolts covered) is a sort of he-say-she-say report on the amnesty granted by the President to the coup plotters of various times in the previous administration, that gave the rebel side including Trillanes some positive interview space. Coup plotters +1.

The other news in the front page today:

Why not all senators are for rebels’ release - a continuation of the he-says-she-says kind of report started in the main headline, which again took note of the Coup plotter's supposed idealism. Coup plotters +1.

Aquino asked: What about ‘Morong 43?’ - a report on the left's take on the soldier's amnesty that could somehow help the Morong 43's case for the same amnesty, since they supposedly are held on trumped up charges just because they were critics of the dictator-like former President. Arroyo -1.

‘Dirty Harry’ comes clean: I am innocent but ready to accept rap - a report that gave overwhelmingly good interview space to Mayor Lim although a point of view from the hostage taker's brother against him was also included. Lim +1.

‘Radyo Inquirer’ headquarters inaugurated - a sort of advertisement news on the Inquirer and its newly inaugurated radio station, that also gave good space to VP Binay. Inquirer +1. Binay +1.

Joker on Palace IIRC review: Work of lesser legal minds - a he-says-she-says news on the IIRC report that gave some dominant negative treatment for President Aquino's legal team, care of Sen. Joker Arroyo, that also gave a negative newsbit against Mayor Lim. Aquino -1. Lim -1.

‘Willing-Willie’ vows to out-wow ‘Wowowee’ - a report that looks like a press release on an upcoming TV show.

‘Confluence of events’ leads Ressa to ‘move on’ - a report about a news executive's departure from a big network giving a bit of negative treatment for ABS-CBN and President Aquino. ABS-CBN -1. Aquino -1.

The scores show President Aquino in negative territory for some days now:
Coup Plotters: 2
Binay: 1
Inquirer: 1
Mayor Lim: 0
ABS-CBN: -1
Arroyo: -1
Aquino: -2
