October 14, 2010

For the first time since stepping down from Malacanang, former President Arroyo is the topic of the main headline of the Philippine Daily Inquirer Front Page today.

The headline report (Arroyo hits P21-B cash transfer. She breaks silence for first time on Aquino gov’t) is about former President Arroyo airing her concerns against the Aquino government's Conditional Cash Transfer program which is supposed to help the poorest of the poor. Although the report centers on former President Arroyo's interpellationpodium in the House of Representative as congresswoman from Pampanga, on the deliberation of the 2011 proposed budget, the news reminds its readers constantly of controversies during her term. Arroyo -1.

The other news in the front page today:

Prosecutors: After 7 yrs of trial, nothing happened - a report saying that the President is alone in his decision to give amnesty to rebel soldiers, and gave space to the lamentations of a state prosecutor on the wasted time they devoted and the danger their witnesses could possible face. Aquino -1.

World explodes in joy as Chile miners emerge - a report on the first rescued survivors of a mining accident in Chile that was center of world news the past two months.

Code-One force to protect Aquino - a plan for an elite commando type of operation prepared in case there is danger to the life of the President, by the Manila Police District. MPD +1.

Luistro’s Chavacano gets lost in translation - a report on a linguistic mistake by the DepEd secretary.

RP action disappoints Hong Kong - a report on the disappointment of Hongkong on Manila's watered down stated action against the people that lead the botched Hostage rescue, which report somehow shielded the President.

De Lima told: Quit or shut up - a he-says-she-says report on the IIRC review, giving space to opinions of politicians and other personalities on various related issues.

The scores:
MPD: 1
Aquino: -1
Arroyo: -1
