November 11, 2010

What seems to be the worsening problem of an airline took the Phil. Daily Inquirer Front Page's center-stage today.

The main headline (3 big labor groups fighting PAL ruling. Cite ‘clear danger to labor rights’) is a report on labor groups ganging up on an airline company and the Labor Department. DOLE -1.

The other front page news today:

US seizes $100k from Garcia’s sons - a report on a 7 year old case involving a Philippine General, which surprisingly did not mention former President Arroyo as what is usual in the past.

Aquino puts on happy face for APEC in Japan - a report coming from the administration's point of view. Aquino +1.

Watch me on TV, Ampatuan Jr. told aides - an update on the Ampatuan trial which news is only the 2nd time it seems that President Arroyo is not mentioned as allied with the accused.

Massacre trial highlights need for ‘powerful President’ - a report that seems to have nothing to do with its own title, giving President Aquino the benefit of the doubt as to his dedication to the upholding of justice. Aquino +1.

Palace official denies ties to realty firm, De Castro - a report that repeats what was written yesterday, including romantically linking a government official to former VP De Castro without a care of showing any basis. De Castro -1.

Int’l law expert asks SC to recall order vs UP profs - a report that continues the pressure on the SC, although the actual statements quoted and included in the news seems milder than what is implied by the title. SC -1.

Filipinas rank food 5th, sex life 18th in ‘happiness’ poll - a story on a 1 month old survey.

Rain, rain go away: GOCC to buy 50,000 umbrellas for gifts - a report from an interview with Sen. Recto who practices self-censorship by not revealing who the specific GOCC is, that would have made all the difference as to the significance of the news. The report also reminds everyone that the President is concerned about expenses. Aquino +1.

The scores:
Aquino: 3
DOLE: -1
De Castro: -1
SC: -1
