The COMELEC is on the pedestal of the Phil. Daily Inquirer Front Page today.

The headline (Brillantes to Comelec. Poll lawyer picked as Melo quits in advance) is a report on the appointment of a new COMELEC chairman, with the Aquino administration giving the constitutional body under former Chairman Melo the best assessment for the first time (a complete reversal of their view from before the elections). COMELEC +1.

The other Front Page news today are as follows:

French nun’s healing credited to John Paul II - a report on the previous pope on the way to Sainthood, giving much exposure to the Catholic tradition of declaring saints. Catholic Church +1.

Lensman seeks out ’86 faces: How’s life after Edsa? - a report on a photojournalists that covered the EDSA People Power Revolution of 1986, possibly in preparation for the upcoming anniversary in February.

People power goes techie, ousts Tunisian dictator - a hint of a reminder of our own EDSA People Power Revolution via a news report of some similar events in Tunisia.

Sinulog: Why Filipinos are dancing, singing devotees of the Child Jesus - a report on the Sinulog festival in Cebu giving the Catholic Church traditions much exposure. Catholic Church +1.

$7.5 MILLION AWARD. CHR to handle Marcos claims - a report we assume is part of the front page (Note: Front page photo shows blank space where this report would have been) that is also an assumption that the Human Rights claim won in US court is final and may be executed.

The scores:
Catholic Church: 2
COMELEC: 1
