January 31, 2011

A repeat of the corruption charges within the military, amidst a photo of protests in Egypt and other news involving Catholics dominate the Phil. Daily Inquirer Front Page today.

The headline (Rabusa to spill beans on 3 ex-AFP bosses. Whistle-blower to detail corruption in military) is a repeat of the same story bannered for several days now, without any additional detail whatsoever, only that this time it devoted some space for comments coming from Sens. Escudero, Santiago and Drilon. Reyes -1. Escudero +1.

The other front page news today:

Egyptian president, protesters in standoff - a report on the growing protests in Egypt which seems to have inspired the start of the same in Sudan.

ANALYSIS. People power revolutions in Arab world puzzle Aquino - a reversal of an analysis from Doronila when he described Aquino's win as based from a flimsy EDSA legacy, etc., an obvious departure from the past's "landslide" victory label. Aquino -1.

Devotees parade Sto. NiƱo images - a report on a religious devotion. Catholic Church +1.

Nuns dance to get recruits in Baguio City - its the nuns' turn to have fun and get more recruits. Catholic Church +1.

COMMENTARY. Climate change: 2011 bodes more weather anomalies - one for the environment from a former senator and (now) environmentalist.

UST marks 5th century with pageantry, prayers - a belated news report on last Friday's 400 years celebration of Asia's oldest university which enjoys special treatment from the Pope. Catholic Church +1.

The scores shows the Catholic Church's much improved standing in the paper and a reversald for President Aquino:
Catholic Church: 3
Escudero: 1
Reyes: -1
Aquino: -1
