The DOJ and its report on the botanist killed in a crossfire took the centerstage of the Phil. Daily Inquirer Front Page today.
The headline (DoJ: NPA, not AFP, killed UP botanist. Panel also says Lopez firm liable for deaths) is a report that comes from the Dept of Justice, absolving the military of any wrongdoing, while still giving the Department Secretary a way out in case the news prove to be controversial. AFP +1. De Lima +1.
The other front page news today:
Ampatuan lawyers: Could victims have hurt themselves? - an update on the Ampatuan hearings, where the defense lawyers asked sometimes ridiculous but sometimes credible questions.
Police comb Central Luzon for leads on slays - a report on the PNP doing what it takes to resolve recent heinous carjacking/murder cases, with the President showing full concern. PNP +1. Aquino +1.
DPWH has a problem: How to spend P100,826,083,000 - a report on the DPWH from the DPWH curiously tagged as Inquirer Research. DPWH +1.
Akbayan head, shooting pal is Aquino’s political adviser - a report that looked negative for the President but actually gave support for the appointment of a shooting buddy. The title of the report perpetuates however the idea that the President is inclined to appoint mere friends rather than qualified people. Aquino -1.
CHINA ON THE RISE. Obama, Hu spar on human rights, okay ‘friendly race’ - a report on the US trip of China's President Hu and the welcome accorded to him by Obama.
‘Chop-chop’ bids inflated prices of rice, says NFA - a report that seems to be redefining the word scam, while repeating without any addition to the confusing nature of yesterday's headline report. Even without names being mentioned, it is obvious to whom this report is being directed against and who benefits from it. Aquino +1. Arroyo -1.
US veterans benefits office, clinic open - a report on the US embassy putting in some money to improve their facilities in the Philippines.
The scores:
Aquino: 2 -1 =1
De Lima: 1
PNP: 1
AFP: 1
DPWH: 1
Arroyo -1.
