The President seems to have become a whistleblower today via the Phil. Daily Inquirer Front Page.
The headline (Aquino exposes rice scam. Only one person or group earned a windfall) is a confusing report on an expose that does not expose anything but unchallenged, one-sided yet incongruent statements from the administration describing the past administration's supposed wrongdoings. Aquino +1. Arroyo -1.
The other Front Page news today:
RH one of Aquino’s 12 priority bills for Congress’ approval - a story showing the administration working hard while the President knows how to get bills (laws) moving, with a surprise positive mention of the Catholic Church on the RH bill. Aquino +1. Catholic Church +1.
Burned Lozano van found; cops on massive manhunt for killers - quite a long report for one small update on the recent carjacking case.
Arroyo struts her stuff: Stress-free, fat-free - a paparazzi-like report that almost forgot to include the dead person in a wake, focuses on former President Gloria's "glowing" aura. Arroyo +1.
Singson on Edsa Dos: We were all used by Arroyo - a report on an interview with Gov. Chavit Singson, with a nifty but unclear mention of Arroyo that the paper took as aside on the former President. The governor also mentioned kind words on the concurrent boxer and congressman Manny Pacquiao while having a sense of accomplishment over former President Estrada's eviction from Malacanang. Arroyo -1. Singson +1. Pacquiao +1. Estrada -1.
Peace talks set; gov’t to free 12 Reds - a report covering the administration's press statements on the planned resumption of peace talks with the NDF, without much of a review of the real and sticky issues surrounding it. Aquino +1. NDF +1.
Massacre victims’ kin feel betrayed over Brillantes appointment - a report on a negative opinion on the appointment of the new COMELEC Chairman. Aquino -1. Brillantes -1.
It’s going to be a rainy summer; no dry season - a weather forecast for the coming months giving positive exposure for the weather agency. PAG-ASA +1.
‘Abadilla 5’ suffers another setback at SC - a report on an SC decision putting the court in a negative position. SC -1.
The scores:
Aquino: 3 -1 =2
NDF: 1
PAG-ASA: 1
Catholic Church: 1
Singson: 1
Pacquiao: 1
Estrada: -1
Brillantes: -1
SC: -1
Arroyo: 1 -2 =-1
